Alpha Phi President

I have been involved with my fraternity Alpha Phi now for 4 years. In those 4 years I have held many different leadership positions. Last novemember I made the decision to run for President, I was so scared but I knew this was an incredible oppurtunity for growth in my personal and professional life. I won the election and knew with how much time and effort I would put into this it would be perfect for my EDGE project as well.

This project was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done but that doesn't mean it wasn't full of challenges. Making decisions for and in behalf of 80 girls is one of the hardest things, not everyone would agree with the decisions but I had to do what I thought was best for the health of the entire chapter. It was a lot of hours spent in long planning meetings. Another challenged I faced was time management, it was hard finding time to fit in all the activites, meetings, socials, and still be a full time student.

Even with the challenges, I saw so many of my sisters who I loved grow and learn with the help of me being president. One thing I really focused on was bringing out the talents in everyone on my executive counsel. I talked for hours with girls who needed advice and help, always advising the to do what they felt was right and to stick to what they believed in. I was a support to all the different branches of leadership as a resource and committee member.

Through this project I know I am changed from the better. This project taught me love, patience, and understanding. It taught me invaluable skills in communication and management. I now know how to manage a budget of greater than 50,000 dollars. I refined my skills as a team leader but also found the value in being a team player.
